The San Jose Knights play in the American Basketball Association (ABA) and are part of the Far West Division along with 30 teams. The Knights are composed of local basketball talent, college graduates who led their teams to victory, and professional players hungry to showcase their skills and get a genuine second chance at the NBA or a pro contract at the international level.

The Knights are on a mission to change the lives of young athletes through the game of basketball. We’ll be offering clinics, school fundraisers, toy drives, autograph days, special guests, visits to schools, physical education, and more. Stay tuned!

Everson Lacerda graduated with a degree in Finance, won the Big West Conference for the University of the Pacific in Stockton, CA and also won the Sun Belt Conference for St. Thomas University  in Miami, FL. Everson also played in the (NBB) Professional  League in Brazil for 5 years. He brings is love of the game and passion for inspiring youth to all he does.

His goal is to make ABA basketball a popular and prominent sport in San Jose and its surrounding areas.`

Born and raised in Brazil in a single parent household,  the founder of the Knights is walking proof of the impact sports can have on an individual`s life. 

mEET THE FOUNDER

        ABA HISTORY

The  American Basketball Association (ABA) is a men’s professional basketball league.  The league has grown to become the largest professional sports league in the world!  In 1999 Joe Newman and Richard P. Tinkham founded the league. It is the re-launch of the original ABA which merged with the NBA in 1976. 

Tinkham co-founded both the original ABA and the Indiana Pacers. Joe Newman was the CEO of Joe Newman Advertising, Inc. and Alliance Broadcasting Group, Inc.  The ABA was established in 1967 and merged with the National Basketball Association in 1976 [New Jersey Nets, San Antonio Spurs, Indiana Pacers, Denver Nuggets]. 

Some of the ABA notable players where: Julius Irving (Dr. J) George Gervin (The Iceman), Ricky Barry, Moses Malone along with, many others that came to be NBA players.  The ABA was reformed in 2000 in partnership with the NBA and has been operating in harmony for the past 19 years.
